Would you like to travel, and visit other countries? At some level, we all want to travel and see the world. Often, it is the lack of money, and sometimes the necessary visa to travel, that makes it difficult to achieve this particular dream. As a self made expat, you can quite essentially kill these two birds with one job application. The benefits of working abroad are quite literally in a world of their own. You get to travel, meet a different kind of people, experience different cultures and make some money while you are at it. This is all well and good, but first, you have to find the job abroad.

There are three easy steps that you can do to get working abroad:

1. Research your intended destination

It is extremely important to start out thoroughly researching your intended destination. As an expat you need to know the economic atmosphere, the cultures involved and, most of all, the labor laws that you will need to adhere to. You cannot and must not uproot yourself if you do not understand your intended destination. For example; do you need to speak the local language? Will English help? If you intend to work in the emerging economies of the east, you need to know that in China, 90 hours weeks are a common thing and in the Middle East, you work from Sunday through to Thursday.

2. Apply to legitimate jobs

To often we have read the horror stories of expats applying for and getting jobs that are not there. You need to find a reliable platform or a company that is actually hiring. This can be done through social networking, looking through the necessary state regulatory bodies and holding video chats with your employer to be, if possible.

3. Prepare well for your interview

This involves an extensive study of the company you intend to work for as well as the culture you intend to relocate to. Different countries adhere to different social rules when it comes to interviewing candidates. In America and Britain, you may be required to take psychometric tests and to prove your problem solving skills by taking an assessment test. In Japan, as an expat, you will be required to show that you can get along with your colleagues. The same thing applies to Brazil, you need to show that you are a team player as opposed to a lone ranger. These are all things you need to know before actually taking the interview.
