At Microsoft, we have worked to develop a strong open source program over the past decade, making it easy for every team at Microsoft to choose to use, contribute to, and release open source software, and bring choice, technology and community to our customers. The Microsoft Open Source Programs Office is a small, multi-disciplinary team that works across the company to ensure Microsoft's success with open source. We:


  • Work every day to make open source engineering easier throughout all of Microsoft  
  • Drive culture change in the company and in the industry by listening and guiding  
  • Execute on programs, tools and services that eliminate engineering friction related to open source (e.g.,   
  • Develop core insights around open source project health and business value  
  • Build playbooks that enable our businesses to expand their open source work quickly and successfully  
  • Are passionate about continuous delivery of value

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1 year of technical skill work, such as GitHub organization administration, NPM packaging publication, and spreadsheets or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proven self-direction and organization skills: Uses independent judgment and discretion to demonstrate the use of technologies, processes, tools, and methodologies to provide solutions for issues/needs.
  • Proven project and/or service improvement: Identifies opportunities for improvement within a process or service to propose change or adjust a plan.
  • Experience working with open source software projects and community
  • Experience working across large organizations. Actively seeks and creates ways to increase synergy across multiple customers, partners, and internal groups
  • Drives consistency in processes and services to align with defined policies and procedures and meet performance expectations for consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of delivery
  • Experience working with customers, partners, and internal groups to identify priorities and recommend ways to improve satisfaction, performance, and the experience

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • GitHub tenant administration: Helping projects be successful by assisting with GitHub repository management and operations, GitHub organization administration, GitHub Apps and other integrations 
  • Open source release administration: Managing the publishing of certain sets of packages, such as NPM; publishing of third-party sources and other legal obligations 
  • Continuous integration configuration requests for systems such as Azure Pipelines and GitHub Actions 
  • Documentation and content editing: Helping manage large sets of Markdown content, deploying to internal and external endpoints 
  • Communications execution: Gathering content for and publishing monthly newsletter; coordinating internal meetups and events  
  • Managing financial transactions and record-keeping, including items like FOSS Fund payments, Azure credit grants, MSDN accounts, and training records.
