Customer Success: Microsoft aspires to help our customers achieve their own digital transformation, leveraging the power of Microsoft Cloud solutions and support offerings. To this end, Microsoft invests in a dedicated Customer Success team that will help Microsoft customers successfully realize their business outcomes.

As a Customer Engineer you will be a key, deeply technical resource for the customer, primarily focused on delivering proactive services such as education workshops, delivering assessments and providing tailored guidance to remove technical blockers for customers. Troubleshooting skills are essential as this role as well. The role can include a mixture of short and long-term customer engagements which will be delivered only remotely with no travel to customer site.

 

This role is focusing on Windows Client, Windows Server, Failover Cluster and Hyper-V.

Technical Expertise:

 

The Platforms Customer Engineer role requires knowledge and experience in several of the following technologies/areas:

  • Experience with Windows 10 including: migrations, automated deployments, creation of provisioning packages, use of Microsoft Intune to manage Windows 10 and mobile Devices
  • Current and dee​p Windows client deployment experience with Windows 10, the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, and the Microsoft Assessment and Planning tool
  • Sysprep, WinPE, and image deployment methods such as Lite Touch
  • Experience building and maintaining desktop and server images, producing and employing Group Policy Objects to manage the environment, and how to deploy images and applications using multiple methodologies, including SCCM, WDS, etc. using Zero Touch or Lite Touch capabilities
  • Related technologies including, Active Directory, BitLocker, Windows Image and Configuration Designer, and the User State Migration Tool
  • Windows Client Security experience, including on endpoint security areas like Microsoft Defender
  • Deploying and handling desktop virtualization technologies like App-V, and the Microsoft VDI suite is a plus
  • Experience troubleshooting automating infrastructure deployments using security best practices.
  • Solid understanding/knowledge or experience on Hyper-V
  • Solid understanding of large enterprise Windows Server infrastructure design and deployment, client/server, networking, and Internet technologies fundamentals.
  • Experience with Windows Server 2008 (R2), Windows Server 2012(R2), Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019
  • Deep knowledge in some of the following areas: Domain Name System, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Windows Deployment Service, Windows Server Update Services, Windows Failover Cluster Services, Storage, Cluster Shared Volumes, Active Directory Services, Group Policy, Active Directory Certificate Services, Remote Desktop Services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of networking protocols like TCP/IP, SMB including use of troubleshooting tools.
  • Scripting languages like PowerShell is a plus (Administrative Tasks)
  • Troubleshooting at the expert level within large network environments
  • Experience with software defined networking and network performance tuning (RDMA, RSS and vRSS, VMQ, VVMQ)
  • Experience with Software defined storage and cluster shared storage (Cluster shared volumes, Storage Spaces and Storage Spaces Direct)
  • Experience with monitoring of large-scale virtualized environments (what counters to monitor, what are the triggers for alerts, host and guest monitoring)
  • Experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery processes and tooling
  • Understanding of security concepts (encryption, authentication and authorization, minimal surface)

As a Customer Engineer, you will: 

  • Educate and guide Customers by delivering workshops and webinars.
  • Help customers with their journey to the cloud.
  • Provide the most effective method of service delivery by analyzing trends and common themes across customers.
  • Seek information about the underlying needs of customers.
  • Deliver proactive services such as risk assessments, code reviews, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Help customers with troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Be the technical expert for customer projects and deployments.
  • Mentor other Customer Engineers.
  • Contribute to business goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Seek opportunities to drive Customer Success business results by collaborating with multiple team members.
  • Identify opportunities to articulate business value and grow customer relationships in alignment with Customer Success business priorities and stakeholder management principles.
  • Modify existing intellectual property (IP) or, where applicable, create new content.
  • Build plans that consider potential obstacles and immediate and long-term consequences.
  • Demonstrate expertise in a specific solution, or several products, feature functions, or services.
  • Provide stakeholder assistance throughout deployment to avoid/resolve technical issues.
  • Consistently apply "lessons learned", model personal accountability & teamwork.
  • Understand customer/partner requirements and can map the adoption and optimization of Microsoft technology solutions accordingly.
  • Gather customer impressions of products and services and integrates this feedback into decision making.
  • Drive and Support innovation focusing on industry solutions and customer business outcomes on the Microsoft platform.
  • Cultivate relationships, credibility, and loyalty with Сustomers and Partners intentionally by sharing relevant business expertise.
